Triathlon coming to town

From the archive, first published Wednesday 15th Mar 2006.

Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club will once again be staging it's own short distance triathlon this year.

The event involves a 400m pool swim, 15.5km bike, and 3.1km run, and will be held on Sunday, May 28th.

It starts at Haverfordwest pool and finishes at Haverfordwest Cricket club, and is ideally suited to novices who would like to `try a tri'!

It follows two weeks after Cancer Research UK women's only `Race for Life' 5k, which will be held at Withybush Showground on Saturday, May 13th.

Further details of the race, including an entry form, are on the club's excellent website www.pembrokeshire-tri.org.uk which is updated regularly (or contact Julie on 01437 781914). Entry to the race is just £16 (£8 students/under 18s), which includes membership of the club until the end of September.

The minimum age limit is 15 (as at December 31st, 2005), but there is no maximum age limit!

Spaces are limited to just 32 so anyone interested in taking part needs to move fast.

This short race will be ideal preparation for any first-timers thinking of tackling one of the races at this year's Pembrokeshire Triathlon in Fishguard on Saturday, June 17th. There will be two events, a `middle' distance race consisting of a 2000m swim, 75km bike and 20km run, and a esprinti distance race over 750m swim, 25km bike and 5km run.

For more information please visit www.the-multisport.org or telephone (01639) 761619, or keep an eye on the Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club website.

Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club holds weekly training sessions as well as a series of time trials for swimming, cycling and running.

The club welcomes people of all abilities and has a well established junior section with around 50 members, Pembrokeshire Tristars.

Anyone thinking about giving triathlon a go is welcome at any of the club sessions where advice on all aspects of triathlon is on hand.
