A taste of Ireland

From the archive, first published Wednesday 15th Mar 2006.

IT WILL soon be that time of the year again when every self-respecting Irish man dons an oversized clover covered hat, drinks his fill of Guiness and dances a jig.

However, these days Irish folk and Welsh food-lovers alike can use St Patrick's Day as an opportunity to try out traditional Irish fare, which is far more than just potatoes and stew.

Among the events laid on around the county this Friday to mark the Irish saint's day, is a special menu and music at the Studio 4 restaurant, in Narberth.

A themed menu is being laid on for guests.

When asked what he would pick from the Irish menu, head chef, Tom Hunt, says he would opt for the Bantry Bay mussels starter, a main course of poached Irish salmon with delicate potatoes and clam broth, followed by Brambrake bread and butter pudding made from real Irish dough, washed down with a cool pint of Irish stout.

Owner, Steve Byrd, will be giving customers a free pint of Guiness or a shot of Baileys to help set the mood.

The food will be complemented by live Irish music from the flamboyant Keith Sandel.

And the hosts will be on hand to get everyone singingĀ and mingling too. For more information call 01834 869342.
