Youngsters in the zone with info on the move

A new mobile information centre for young people has been launched in Pembrokeshire.

The Mobile Zone offers information and advice on a range of issues for 11 to 25-year-olds across the county.

An initiative of Pembrokeshire Youth (Pembrokeshire Cou-nty Council's youth service) and the Young People's Partnership, the purpose-built vehicle will provide young people with computer facilities, magazines and leaflets, as well as opportunities to talk to specialist youth information workers.

It will also host information workshops.

Cabinet member for children, young people, Welsh language and learning, Councillor Islwyn Howells, said: "This new vehicle is part of our commitment to cater for our younger generation and has been developed in response to their needs.

"We hope that youngsters wanting advice or information will visit the vehicle when it is in their area."

The Mobile Zone has been jointly funded by the county council and the Welsh Assembly, while an EU grant will help towards staffing costs.

It will include information on education issues, employment and training, the environment, family and relationships, health, housing, the law and rights, sport and leisure and finance issues.

Pembrokeshire Youth will also be working in partnership with Plant Dewi and the Prince's Trust Cymru to use the Mobile Zone as a venue for rural youth clubs.
