Dear Editor.- The rights of the children of Pembrokeshire to access a range of play opportunities came a step closer when the Welsh Assembly published its play policy implementation plan, Play in Wales recently.
I hope that members of Pembrokeshire County Council will be reading this document closely and realise that they should now be considering a local strategy for providing for children's play needs. Local authorities are free to invest their own funding for all types of children's play. One of the core values of the Assembly government is that children and young people should be treated as valued members of the community whose voices are heard and needs considered. If you talk to children and communities across Pembrokeshire, they will tell you that they want local, stimulating and challenging high quality play provision provided by the council. This will include the need for professionally staffed adventure play that provides children with a rich play environment. Are our councillors listening?
