End this misery

From the archive, first published Wednesday 15th Mar 2006.

DEAR EDITOR - After spending the last two weeks visiting in Withybush Hospital, I must comment on the total highway chaos I have experienced while going about my journey. While the work has been taking place installing traffic lights on the roundabout at Merlins Bridge all the obvious routes to take from Haverfordwest to Pembroke have been very congested, adding extra minutes to the journey time.

To try and avoid queuing I decided I would drive the long way round, which I presumed would be quicker in the long run - only to find that there were major works on the road between Haverfordwest and Canaston Bridge, causing my journey to take one hour and ten minutes, instead of the normal 25. It goes without saying that I won't be the only frustrated motorist in Pembrokeshire at the moment, and I seriously think it is time that councillors on the highways authority who are responsible for making decisions that affect thousands of people - causing them to be late for all kinds of appointments - should be sacked and replaced with people who care about making Pembrokeshire a nice place to live and about what affect their decisions have on people and their everyday lives, not just about the salaries that come with their positions.
