Festival builds on past success

From the Western Telegraph, first published Thursday 11th Aug 2005.

Live review: Pendine Rock Festival, Saturday, July 23rd:

The Pendine Rock Festival, now in its third year, is happily going from strength to strength, giving a platform to young bands who are starting out and to more established and familiar local talents further up the bill.

This year the free festival, which ran from noon for ten hours, had a line-up of 12 bands delivering different and exciting variations on the rock formula and it had a beefy and substantial sound system which raised the standard and profile of this now very popular event.

Later in the day, as the Atlantic rain clouds rolled in, so did popular local act Krane. In the past Krane and rain have been synonymous with this event, but this year the canny organisers had the foresight to know that if you book this band best to put a roof on the stage.

Situated between the Museum of Speed and a fairly benign sea it was the music that was making the biggest waves and for fans of Krane it was a chance to catch them at their first big gig locally for a year.

You know where you are with Krane - their American style of good old fashioned rock `n' roll may not be much in vogue at the moment but there's a place in all our hearts for big singalong choruses - don't try to deny it.

And what with Steve's classic rock voice, looks and persona and Andy's spectacular guitar solos, and the proximity of this festival (let your imagination stretch a bit) to Krane's spiritual home of the USA, it all added up to an amazing sound.

If you closed your eyes (not that you would want to) you could have been listening to their CD. Clear as a bell.

And not content with lap dancers on their first video shoot, a belly dancer appeared to gyrate appropriately - that's rock `n' roll for you, Krane-style.
