More visitors needed to save activity centre

AN ex-head teacher who invested £35,000 into setting up a children's activity centre fears he will lose everything unless more people use the facility.

Trevor Powell converted the former village school at Cresselly this spring to incorporate hands-on activities based around learning.

But he is only getting a third of the visitors he needs at Hands On Hideaway to sustain the business and worries it will fold at the end of the summer.

"We need 30 people through the doors daily to keep going, but we are only getting ten,'' says Mr Powell.

"It would be a personal tragedy for me if I had to close the business, but I also think it would be a great loss to the area.''

Children can participate in activities including pottery and collage and there is even a drama stage complete with stage lighting and a dressing up area.

"We just can't understand why people aren't coming here. We have done everything we can to promote ourselves,'' said Mr Powell.

"Once people come here they return time and time again, but at the moment there just aren't enough visitors to keep us going.''
